Dual-Port Device Enhances System Integration for Multiple Gen 2 10Gbit/sec USB 3.1 Channels or Interface Ports

San Jose, Calif.— 5 December 2017 —Parade Technologies, Ltd. (Taipei Exchange: 4966.TWO), a leading high-speed interface, video display, and touch controller IC supplier, today announced a new addition to its USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbit/sec retimer product family.  The PS8817 features two bidirectional USB Gen-2 ports through the integration of four retimer channels, providing two downstream and two upstream connections. The device primarily targets USB Host systems such as PCs and workstation/servers, but can also be applied to USB Device systems including docking stations.

The PS8817 complements the recently introduced PS8811 that is a single-port USB Gen 2 bidirectional retimer.  USB retimers are needed when longer PCB traces are used for signal routing, or when other transmission losses are introduced such as when passing the USB signal through a passive switch for signal routing.  The PS8817 supports both Gen 2 (10Gbit/sec) as well as Gen 1 (5Gbit/sec) operation.  It also supports the Intel DCI (Direct Connect Interface) for closed-chassis debugging over the USB port.

“Parade’s continuous innovation in the high-speed digital interface market has established us as leader in this area,” said Jimmy Chiu, Executive VP of Marketing at Parade Technologies.  “The variety of retimer and redriver products we offer maintains system design flexibility even as interfaces speeds increase, and acceptable PCB trace lengths shorten.  Retimers are particularly needed to fill that gap as speeds approach 10Gbit/sec and beyond.”

In addition to a wide selection of retimers and redrivers for USB, Parade also has retimer and redriver products available for HDMI, DisplayPort, and PCI Express.  Parade also offers mux and demux products that integrate the retimer or redriver function, and a family of USB-C port configuration devices that include both DisplayPort and USB redriver/retimer functions.  These products and more can be found at

The PS8817 Dual-Port USB 3.1 Gen 2 Retimer is sampling now and is packaged in a 4.2 x 8mm QFN Halogen free RoHS Package.
