Parade Introduces New Jitter-Cleaning 2:1 MUX for HDMI 2.0

Retiming Repeater for HDMI 2.0 Includes Two Selectable Inputs and Supports 6 Gbit/sec Data Rate for 4K
Santa Clara, Calif.— 19 September 2017 —Parade Technologies, Ltd. (Taiwan OTC: 4966.TWO), a leading high-speed interface IC supplier, today announced another addition to its portfolio of jitter cleaning devices for high speed data interfaces. The new PS8421 is an HDMI™ 2.0 jitter-cleaning repeater chip that includes a 2:1 input MUX, allowing the selection between one of two HDMI 2.0 inputs. Application for the device includes use within a personal computer to select between two HDMI 2.0 sources, such as between an integrated GPU and discrete GPU. The device can also be used within an Ultra High Definition 4K display to select between two HDMI 2.0 inputs.
The PS8421 is similar to Parade’s popular PS8409A HDMI 2.0 jitter cleaning repeater with the addition of the 2:1 input mux. The PS8421 supports the full 6 Gbit/sec data rate of HDMI 2.0, enabling support for 4K video at 60 frames per second with full 4:4:4 pixel color resolution. It also supports 4K video with the HDR10 format.

The jitter cleaning function of the PS8421 removes clock jitter and data jitter/skew which are signal distortions imposed by PCB traces, the interconnect cable and connectors, and coupling from other nearby digital signals. Jitter cleaning is accomplished with a retimer circuit that includes the use of PLL circuits to regenerate a clean signal on the device output. No external crystal or clock reference is required. The device is packaged in a 5x10mm 66-pin QFN RoHS complaint and halogen-free package.
