PS8805 – USB-C Host Switch with Port Controller and USB 3.1 Gen 2 Retimer / DP Alt Mode HBR3 Redriver

The PS8805 addresses high-speed signal switching and signal integrity requirements for the implementation of a USB Type-C (or USB-C) connector on a USB host device that supports the VESA DisplayPort Alt Mode Standard.  Similar to the PS8802 but with an extended feature set, the device includes an integrated TCPC (Type-C Port Controller) that works together with an external TCPM (Type-C Port Manager) to provide a complete solution for USB Type-C power delivery and port control.


The PS8805 supports USB 3.1 transport data rates up to 10Gbit/sec (Gen 2), and DisplayPort data rates up to 8.1Gbit/sec (HBR3).  To compensate for PCB signal loss and other signal distortion, the PS8805 includes a signal retiming function that is implemented when transporting USB SuperSpeed data.  When transporting DisplayPort data, a signal redriver function is implemented.  The DisplayPort redriver function incorporates Parade’s patented AUX Channel interception technology that adjusts the high speed data driver characteristics based on link training parameters reported by the downstream DisplayPort receiver.
