Lowest Power and Smallest Package Size ICs Available for USB 3.0

San Jose, Calif.—10 December 2013—Parade Technologies Ltd. (Taiwan OTC: 4966.TWO), a leading video display and interface IC supplier, today announced new additions to the company’s USB 3.0 Redriver IC product lineup that are optimized for next generation smartphones, tablets and ultra-mobile devices. Two new devices, the PS8731 and PS8733, offer the lowest power consumption and smallest package size available for the USB 3.0 redriver function.

USB 3.0 is now being designed into smartphones, tablets and other ultra mobile devices with the availability of SoCs (System-on-Chip devices) that support USB 3.0.  The implementation of the 5 Gigabit-per-second interconnect of USB 3.0 introduces new signal integrity challenges into these platforms, partly due to less-than-optimal IC placement in the compact system form factor.  Redrivers are commonly needed along the USB 3.0 signal path to assure interoperability between connected devices.  The redriver is used to overcome signal losses that occur along the PCB traces, across connectors, and through cables.

Parade’s new USB 3.0 Redriver ICs, the PS8731 and PS8733, are optimized for small form factor systems. The PS8731 is a single-channel unidirectional USB 3.0 Redriver, and the PS8733 is a one-port bidirectional USB 3.0 Redriver.

Both devices are packaged in a 2x2mm TQFN package, the most compact USB 3.0 Redriver package available.  They also exhibit the industry’s lowest power consumption for both active and standby power, and use a single 1.2V supply. Automatic power saving and power down modes, unique features offered by Parade, further extend system battery life.

“Parade continues to be responsive to our key OEM customers who want these smaller and lower power components” explained Jimmy Chiu, EVP of Marketing at Parade Technologies. “The PS8731 and PS8733, with their low power and small package, make adding USB 3.0 Redrivers into a portable system more practical, improving system performance and interoperability, which in the end improve consumer experience.  Redrivers help to ensure that systems will ‘just work’ with various devices and cables.”

Newest Members of a Growing High Speed Signal Integrity Product Family

The PS8731 and PS8733 are two of the latest components in Parade’s growing family of high speed signal redriver and signal handling products.  Parade is an established innovator and leader in redriver and repeater ICs for DisplayPort, HDMI, PCI Express, SATA, and USB.
