New DP to HDMI Converter Leverages Latest DisplayPort, HDMI, and USB-C Specifications to Offer New Capabilities

San Jose, Calif.— 1 May 2018 —Parade Technologies, Ltd. (Taiwan OTC: 4966.TWO), a leading high-speed interface, video display, and touch controller IC supplier, today announced a new generation DisplayPort to HDMI protocol converter.  The PS186 accepts DisplayPort version 1.4a audio/video data and outputs HDMI 2.0b with the ability to support HDR at 4K.  The PS186 is ideal for DisplayPort to HDMI protocol converters or “dongles”, as well as docking stations, particularly those supporting the USB-C™ interface that is seeing wide adoption across notebook PCs and smart phones.

By utilizing features included in DisplayPort 1.4a, the PS186 requires only two channels of DisplayPort data to generate an HDMI output that provides the full 4K HDR performance level supported by HDMI 2.0b.  When used in conjunction with a USB-C interface and cable that includes four high-speed channels, this leaves two channels available for high-speed USB data.  In the near future, devices with a USB-C interface will have the ability to utilize this to enable a single connection to a dock that simultaneously supports USB 3.2, HDMI 2.0b with 4K HDR capability, by using the PS186 protocol converter, as well as charging power for the device.

“The PS186 is the next generation of our popular PS176 product,” said Jimmy Chiu, Executive VP of Marketing at Parade Technologies.  “Today the PS176 is the most widely used DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 protocol converter chip.  The PS186 takes advantages of the latest standards to provide new capabilities wanted by PC and smart phone suppliers.”

DisplayPort version 1.4a is the latest version of the DisplayPort standard published by VESA in April 2018. It includes the implementation of DSC (Display Stream Compression) and the HBR3 (High Bit Rate 3) data rate of 8.1 Gbps (Gigabits-per-second); used together, these features enable the ability of the PS186 to deliver full HDMI 2.0b performance from two lanes, or channels, of DisplayPort.  The PS186 also supports HDMI CEC data over the DisplayPort AUX Channel, HDCP 2.2, HBR audio formats, up to 12-bit color components, as well as “Horizontal Blanking Expansion” as specified in DisplayPort v1.4a.

Availability

The PS186 is packaged in a 56 pin, 7x7mm Halogen free QFN package. Samples are available now.
