Parade Technologies Introduces New DisplayPort™ 1.4 Mux and Demux Products with Jitter Cleaning
Posted July 27th, 2017
Dual-Mode DP 1.4 Mux and Demux Devices Include Retiming, Support 8.1Gbps DisplayPort 1.4 and 6.0Gbps HDMI™ 2.0b Data Rates
Santa Clara, Calif.— 27 July 2017 —Parade Technologies, Ltd. (Taiwan OTC: 4966.TWO), a leading high-speed interface IC supplier, today announced two new chips that expand options for video transport demultiplexing/multiplexing and signal conditioning for Dual-Mode DisplayPort™ 1.4 in personal computers, workstations, and other high-resolution video device applications. The PS8461 is a multiplexing, or “mux”, chip that allows the selection between one of two dual mode DisplayPort inputs that are jitter-cleaned and repeated at the output. The PS8469 is a demultiplexing, or “demux”, chip that allows a single Dual-Mode DisplayPort 1.4 input to be outputted either as a Dual-Mode DisplayPort 1.4 output or an HDMI™ 2.0b output, each being jitter-cleaned. Both devices support DisplayPort 1.4 HBR3 8.1Gbps and HDMI 2.0b 6Gbps data rates.
For systems supporting DisplayPort 1.4, the new PS8461 and PS8469 provide the platform designer a means to address the increasingly common need for multiple GPUs and/or additional video display and external connection options. The PS8461 2:1 mux is ideal for personal computer systems that utilize multiple GPUs, as it can be used to select which GPU will drive a video output connector or embedded display. The PS8461 can also be applied in displays or docking stations to select alternate video inputs.
The PS8469 is ideal for video devices that require both a DisplayPort output, including DisplayPort 1.4 with Dual-Mode support, and an HDMI 2.0b output. Example application video devices include personal computers and docking stations. The PS8469 accepts a single Dual-Mode DisplayPort 1.4 input and can provide either a repeated, jitter-cleaned, Dual Mode DisplayPort 1.4 compliant output from one output port, or a jitter-cleaned, level-shifted, HDMI 2.0b compliant output from another port.
“Driven by the new generation of discrete and integrated GPUs now entering the mainstream market, DisplayPort 1.4 utilizing HBR3 is now becoming a new design challenge for the system architect” notes Jimmy Chiu, Executive VP of Marketing at Parade Technologies. “In addition to DisplayPort now becoming common on the USB Type-C connector, HDMI 2.0b output from an HDMI receptacle also remains a desirable feature to provide TV display compatibility. At the high bit rates now offered by DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.0b, jitter cleaning within the video switching configuration matrix is now needed to pass compliance at the interface outputs. We are providing our OEM customers these unique Dual-Mode Display 1.4 jitter cleaning repeating and switching products to maintain both DP and HDMI compliance along with solid performance for good end-user experience.”
While providing new video channel routing options, the PS8461 and PS8469 are similar to Parade’s previously announced PS8460 and PS8468 in that they provide jitter-cleaning signal conditioning, and they support DisplayPort 1.4 with dual-mode operation. This means that in addition to supporting native DisplayPort up to the HBR3 8.1Gbps link rate, the highest transport rate specified for DisplayPort 1.4, the devices also support HDMI at TMDS link rate up to 6.0 Gbps, the maximum for HDMI 2.0b. The jitter-cleaning repeater function, which utilizes a retimer circuit, is automatically applied to either the DisplayPort and HDMI protocols, whichever is received on the input. No external crystal or reference clock is required. The PS8461 and PS8469 also implement configurable and automatic input equalizers to compensate for channel losses. The devices have a very low standby power consumption of less than 50 micro-watts.
The PS8461 and PS8469 devices are packaged in a 5x10mm 66-pin QFN which is RoHS compliant and halogen-free.
