New Embedded DisplayPort Tcons Support Panel Self-Refresh and Resolutions up to 2560×1700.
San Jose, Calif.— 22 July 2014 —Parade Technologies Ltd. (Taiwan OTC: 4966.TWO), a leading video display and interface IC supplier, today announced a new series of eDP Tcon devices that feature Panel Self Refresh (PSR) and the support of LCD display resolutions up to 2560×1700. These new devices, which include the DP661A, DP662 and DP663, were developed for 2015 mobile device platforms with emphasis on low power consumption for extending battery life.
The drive towards higher system integration in mobile devices, as well as higher display resolution and longer battery life, has fueled the adoption of Embedded DisplayPort, or eDP, as the preferred internal motherboard-to-display interface for video data. Parade’s new DP663 Tcon (Timing Controller) device supports up to four eDP lanes, at a rate up to 2.7 Gigabit-per-second per lane, and is designed for panel resolutions up to 2560×1700 with up to 24-bit color. The DP661A and DP662 support up to two eDP lanes and are designed for panel resolutions up to 1920×1200 with up to 24-bit color.
Parade is the leading supplier of eDP Tcon (timing controller) devices worldwide, working in partnership with leading LCD manufacturers and system OEMs. The DP661A, DP662 and DP663 are among the newest members of Parade’s extensive Tcon product line. To provide support for PSR as specified in eDP version 1.3, the devices include an internal video frame buffer that is used to store the display image during panel self-refresh, allowing the CPU/GPU to temporarily enter a low power state during a static image condition. The devices support Chip-on-Glass (CoG) interfaces to the panel column drivers and include Parade’s exclusive Smart-Backlight™feature for color and power optimization. They also utilize Parade’s CrystalFreeTM technology, which eliminates the need for an external timing reference, and the devices support gamma correction, color engine, and FRC for enhanced image quality.
“Because of the demand for higher resolution and longer battery life in portable devices, Tcons that support eDP with PSR are becoming increasingly popular,”said Jimmy Chiu, Executive VP of Marketing at Parade Technologies. “And because this is happening in the ultra-portable device market, there is even more emphasis on longer battery life during video playback as well.”
Availability
The DP661A DP662 and DP663 are available now. The DP661A is offered in a QFN package, and the DP662 and DP663 are offered in a VFBGA package.
